Foot In The Door Alumni: Michael Harrison
We caught up with Michael to talk about his recent role at the BBC.
In 2022, to celebrate the BBC’s centenary, a monumental campaign was put into motion to bring storytelling to thousands of young people across the nation. In the form of interactive seminars, professionals spoke about their personal journeys and engaged students to share their own stories too.
As Team Assistant for ‘Share Your Story’, I dealt with many facets of the campaign both internally and externally to ensure that as many people as possible could get to enjoy these sessions.
Building on what I learnt on the ‘Foot in the Door’ course with the Andy Taylor Foundation, I could overcome a range of new challenges with new solutions. I can thank the foundation for enhancing my skill set and preparing me for this varying industry.
I didn’t just get to work on the ‘Share Your Story’ campaign, but also took part in some fantastic research attachments like ‘BBC Children in Need’ and working with the Children’s Television team behind CBBC and CBeebies.
For me, this was the true highlight of my time in MediaCityUK – Having the opportunity to meet my childhood favourites, Hacker and Dodge, was very exciting. As if things couldn’t get any better – Talking with the talent behind the characters, Phil and Warrick, was really something. I haven’t laughed so hard in a long time.
Michael is currently a Studio Runner at Banijay.
